Has moonphase dial with handpainted seascape and landscape. Spandrels handpainted with roses. Swan neck broken arch pedimented bonnet with fluted columns and brass capitals and bases. Pendulum door has fluted quarter columns and both the arched door and panel are inlaid with a checker board outlining band. The base has a matching inlaid panel and raised on ogee bracket feet. 2 FLOW BLUE PIECES. The 8" H covered & lidded and 2-handled [possibly a sugar?] compote is marked incised "oriental stone J. & G. Alcock" with a 6-pointed star(?) beneath it and marked in blue "SCINDE" in a circular platter type mark under the glaze. This is from the stroke-on-trent potters John and George Alcock and the piece dates circa 1840s. Condition: crazing throughout and in some cases the crazing is discoloring to brown, (1) chip on one of the points of the lid, (3) minor chips with pieces come together, displays wear. The other piece is a 5.25" H lidded teapot with flow blue/transfer design with an illegible blue square(?) mark on the bottom and under the glaze. Condition: crazing, displays wear on base & lid rim. The inkwell and base are incised with ""855" and possibly the Vienna shield mark which resembles a 3-segmented bullet or beehive mark but probably another German, French, or Austrian factory. Size: the individual inkwells are 3.25" H, the entire piece 4.25" H, 10" from handle to handle, and 6.6" W. Condition: There is paint loss espeically where the pieces come into contact with the metal. Base top exhibits discoloration and paint loss. The brass is tarnished, pitted, and dented in some areas. |
