CHINESE EXPORT FOO DOGS. 18th C. Chinese export ceramic foo dogs for the English market. Finely detailed left and right facing foo dogs on pierced plinth bases. Bases are decorated in green, pink and yellow floral and leaf designs. Foo dogs have green bodies with dot and line decoratoin, iron red raised decorative highlights, iron red lips and tongues, open mouth with detailed teeth. One dog has paw resting on animals, the other holds a giant reticulated pearl. Each dog is adorned with elaborate 18th C. style wigs descending down their backs. Bottoms have oval holes ( possibly for fitting on larger stands. No mark. size: 21 1/4"H, 10"W, 8"D. Condition: one with small chip in base rim, one with 2" crack and repair on plinth.
