1233 H. DE LA COUR FRUIT MARKET O/C. 20th c. Oil on canvas. Signed lower left. This shows fruitcarts and fruit sellers in a 19th c. guise. Biographical info is glued to the stretchers: De La Cour (born 1890) was a Belgian artist who worked in Rome and Brussels, he was active during the occupation (presumably during WWII). Size: 28" h., 38" w., framed 34" h., 44 1/2" w. Condition: small puncture near the signature and minor craquellure; must be shipped by a 3rd party due to its size. 1,200 - 1,600
1235 C.K. TERLOUW STICK GATHERER. Early 20th c. Oil on canvas. Signed C. Terlouw lower right. Terlouw (Dutch, 1890-1948) is a listed artist. This shows a woman in wooden shoes gathering sticks; the style is quasi-impressionist, while the temperament is similar to Dutch painting of the 17th c. Cornelius Kees Terlouw was active in France doing flower paintings and Dutch genre scenes. Size: 27" h., 20" w., framed 25" h., 33" w. 1363 WOMEN AT A WELL, FAUX ANTIQUE. 20th c. Oil (?) on canvas. Unsigned. This image is produced in an 18th c. Italian manner; the subject matter and the composition support that. It is however a 20th c. creation--craquellure lines are painted in. Very decorative. Size: 16 1/2" h., 19 1/2" w., framed 26" h., 30 1/2" w. This shows a broadly painted, cursory landscape composition with many devices of an Italianate style: overgrown ruins, trees and vegetation framing a deeply recessed mountain vista, and peasant figures. 1369 NAPLES BAY WATERCOLOR. Probably 19th c. Watercolor on paper. Monogrammed with a Z and an oval with a cross through it. Delicately and finely painted image of presumably Mt. 1662 T. BALDASAR ARAB MARKET WATERCOLOR. 19th c? On paper. Signed lower right. With pencil underdrawing and many colors, this image shows various merchants, a pink building and a minaret in the distance. Size: 12 5/8" h., 8 1/2" w., framed 19 1/2" h., 15 1/2" w. Condition: no visible defects to the painting (possible acid damage from an acidically yellowed mat and cardboard backing). 150 - 200
1666 JEF WAUTERS LA RECREATION PAINTING. Dated 1969. Signed lower right. Oil on canvas. Jef Wauters (Belgian, 1927-) is an artist whose paintings of children are characterized by slight distortion and cartoonish simplicity as well as being characterized by an attention to textural differences within the paint. Wauters has exibited frequently throughout Western Europe since the early 1950's. La Recreation shows children standing among an ochre background. Size: 29" h., 36" w., framed slightly larger. 1668 MACHOUREK MATADOR AND LADY PAINTING. Dated on the back 965 (1965). Oil on canvas. Signed lower left. Anton M. Machourek (Moravia, 1913-1991) is a Czech artist who emigrated to Monaco, where his works (bullfighting and matador scenes) are shown. This shows a lady with a fan and a matador in close-up. Size: 25" h., 21" w. Condition: slight craquellure in the red paint. 200 - 300
1762 MIKULAS GAJDOS SOCCER MATCH PAINTING. 20th c. Acrylic on canvas. Signed lower left. This semi-abstract red and blue rendering of a soccer match is by the Slovakian artist Gajdos (b. 1937). His many exhibitions from the late 1950s have included some US appearances, such as in the City of Erie, PA. Size: 20" h., 24" w., framed 32" h., 29" w. Condition: no defects. 200 - 300
