1043 UPJOHN AGHAJI THREE POT PAINTING. 20th c. (Contemporary). Oil on canvas. Signed. Buchi Upjohn Aghaji is a Nigerian artist (Igbo tribe) now active in the USA, whose work has been exhibited frequently in Philadelphia, LA, and Atlanta (where the artist lives). The African experience and African visual information is the stuff of his imagery. This shows three clay pots of which their incised decoration is mimicked by the heavily applied impasto. 1047 ALCOA CUSTOM PICTURE FRAME. 20th c. Made for the office of Charles Braglio, Alcoa Executive. The framed photograph shows, apparently, Mr. Braglio walking near telephone booths. Shows a pumpkin, various gourds, Indian corn, and a bottle of Korbel champagne on a cutting board; this is painted in an accomplished and attractive neo-impressionist style. 1127 TONY COUCH BARN WATERCOLOR. 20th c. Watercolor on paper. Signed in the lower right. Tony Couch is a nationally known watercolor painter and watercolor instructor who is known for authoring books on watercolor technique, producing videos of the same, and conducting workshops. His style is characterized by big brush wet-in-wet technique. This shows a barn in an autumn landscape. Size: 15" h., 21" w., framed 25" h., 31" w. Condition: no visible defects. 700 - 900
1128 TONY COUCH SHACK AND POWER LINES. 20th c. Watercolor on paper. Signed lower left. Tony Couch is a published watercolorist who authored "Watercolor, You Can Do It!" He has a BA in Art, teaches workshops around the USA and belongs to many national and regional watercolor socieries (including The Pittsburgh Watercolor Society according to his bio). This image shows a shack among power and telephone lines. Size: 15" h., 21 1/2" w., framed 25" h., 31" w. Condition: no visible defects; frame as is. 700 - 900
1129 CANARY DANDY MAN SIGNED OSCAR. 20th c. Oil on canvas. Signed Oscar lower left. Semi-primitive image of a man in a long coat with a canary perched on his finger. The tilted perspective and rigid linearity of the painting suggest an intentional primitive-ness. Size: 16" h., 12" w., framed 21" h., 17" w. Condition: a 3/4" tear in the upper right and a small puncture in the lower left; yellowed varnish and some craquellure; frame has gesso losses and is as is. 200 - 300

1173 FRANK WEBB WATERCOLOR OF PIERS. 20th c. Signed lower left. Webb (North Versailles, PA [Pittsburgh], 1927-) is a listed artist and watercolor instructor who has several books published about his paintings and his watercolor technique (distinguished by big brushwork). His work resides in many private and public collections. This shows a small harbor, its pier and boathouse, in aquas and greens. Size: 15" h., 22" w., framed 21 1/4" h., 27 1/4" w. 1174 DEL MONTE HORSEMEN IN WINTER. 20th c. (probably 1940s or 1950s) Oil on canvas. Signed on the verso (K?) DelMonte. Finely painted image of two men on their horses in snow; the lighting effects, detail, color and brushwork are by an accomplished artist. Size: 26" h., 36" w., framed 28" h., 39 1/2" w. Condition: minor water staining on the verso canvas, left side; otherwise it is in overall good condition. 1,000 - 1,500
1177 H. POLAR LOWLAND PASTORALE WATERCOLOR. Early 20th c. Watercolor on paper. Signed in charcoal, lower left. This fine watercolor shows a couple in conversation: the man holds a fish basket and a small child accompanies the women. The landscape and the cow complete the Northern European (Dutch?) appearance of this image, possibly Hague School or of that ilk. Size: 19" h., 27 1/2" w., framed 25" h., 32" w. Condition: buckled, slightly yellowed, otherwise no major detractions; no written information is on the paper verso; period frame as is. 900 - 1,500
1179 ATTR. CHARLES RAUCH SEPIA DRAWING. Early to mid 19th c. Graphite with sepia ink wash on paper. No signature visible. The attribution to Rauch comes from a paper attached to the frame; this drawing came from a Rauch (1791-1857) sketchbook acquired in a Sumter, SC antique shop in 1967 by an Emmitt Peter, who divided the book into individual sheets for sale. Houses are shown. Rauch is a listed French painter from Nancy. Size: 5" h., 7" w., framed 8 5/8" h., 10 5/8" w. Condition: there is an acidic matboard; paper condition is unknown but no visible defects can be seen. 300 - 500

1355 ROAD AT SUNSET WATERCOLOR. 20th c. Watercolor on paper. Unsigned. Shows a dirt road leading back in one-point perspective, past a house on the right and towards an orange sunset. 1357 WILLIAM D. FAIVRE FAIRY TALE PAINTING. Dated 1934. Oil on canvas. Signed in the lower right corner and on the verso. This image is painted with the clarity of an illustration, perhaps to be used for reproduction. Shown are the characters from several fairy tales: Hansel and Gretel and the witch with the ginger bread house, Alice with the rabbit of hearts, Little Red Riding Hood, fairy with insect wings, and Cinderella (?) and the pumpkin. Size: 25" h., 36" w., framed 31" h., 42" w. Condition: light and minor craquellure; otherwise it just needs a cleaning. 1,200 - 1,500

Finely painted image of these flowers in close-up makes this appear to have been, perhaps, an illustration for publication. Size: 12" h., 9 1/4" w., framed 19" h., 16 1/4" w. 1456 PURDY WATERMELON VENUS. 1968. Oil on canvas. Signed lower left. Shows a grey woman emerging from a bowl of fruit, riding the "half-shell" of a slice of watermelon. Also signed on the back Robert Cleaver Purdy. Purdy is a listed artist, known for his work beginning in the WPA era. Size: 38" h., 29" w., framed 47" h., 38" w. 1508 TWO YOLANDA MCCULLOCH DRAWINGS. Recent. Both are signed. Colored pencil and pastel on paper. One shows Falling Water, the Kaufmann house built by Frank Lloyd Wright and the other artwork, entitled "Back Stretching" shows a simplified rendering of a horse. Ms. McCulloch is a published author of "The Portrait's Lifelines." Size each framed: 19" square (Falling Water) and 33" h., 29" w. (horse). Condition: no defects; frames are as is. 200 - 300

1779 WARHOL SIGNED POSTCARD AND PHOTO. Late 20th c. The postcard image is of Warhol in his middle years, taken by himself. The signature appears as a "W" in black marker. The accompanying photo is of Andy Warhol in his later years with a paintbrush held to his cheek. Comes with a COA and a receipt of purchase from 1992. Size framed: 18" h., 23" w. 2032 THE MUSE, CALABRESE COPY. 1964. Oil on canvas. Signed Anthony A. Calabrese. Mr. Calabrese was a local artist who studied art during the 1950's. From the 1950's through the 1960's he mostly labored as a window artist for Pittsburgh department stores, but began to come into his own as an artist in the 1970's. This 1964 painting represents one of his earlier efforts and it is a copy after Morse of The Muse. Size: 28" h., 22" w., framed 32" h., 26" w.
