2652 ELIZABETH AHLEFELDT WATERCOLOR. Late 19th c/ early 20th c. Watercolor on paper. Unsigned. Attributed to this Danish artist. This precisely rendered painting shows a "Mill Pond" according to the tag affixed to the back of the frame. Size: 8 3/4" h., 11 1/4" w., framed 16 1/2" h., 19" w. Condition: no defects, frame as is. 300 - 500
2653 ELIZABETH AHLEFELDT WATERCOLOR. Late 19th / early 20th c. Attributed to this Danish artist. Watercolor on paper. Unsigned. This shows a summer house outside of Copenhagen (according to a title card affixed to the frame's back). Very well and attentively painted. Size: 9 3/4" h., 12 1/4" w., framed 17" h., 19" w. Condition: no defects. 300 - 500
2656 PAIR OF OILS ON COPPER SIG. CHEBER. Date undetermined. Each is signed Cheber. Shows classically inspired landscapes. Oil on copper. Rounded edges to the copper plates, that are set in undulating rectangular custom gilt frames. Size each: 9" h., 6 1/2" w., framed 10 1/2" h., 8" w. Condition: some slight inpainted areas visible in the orange clouds of the one; frames are as is. 225 - 350
2733 LANDSCAPE WITH RESTING CONQUISTADORS. Perhaps as early as the 18th c.? Oil on wooden panel. Shows three resting, armored soldiers in a verdant landscape. Size: 16 1/2" h., 23 1/2" w., framed 23" h., 30" w. Condition: the panel is warped and should be cradled; the panel has two cracks from the side edges that reach inward about two inches apiece. These cracked areas have been varnished over on the recto but under blacklight no inpainted areas are visible. Otherwise only age appropriate scuffs at the edges and varnish craquellure; frame as is. 800 - 1,200

2736 yTHOMAS C. BLAKE LANDSCAPE. 20th c. Oil on canvas board. Signed lower left. Blake (British, 1890-?) is a listed artist of British Highland scenes. This shows a lake among mountains at sunset. Size: 12" h., 16" w., framed 16" h., 20" w. Condition: no visible defects. 400 - 600
2737 LAURITS HOLST MARITIME SCENE. Dated 1870. Oil on canvas. Signed in red lower right; "Chicago" is also written below the artist's name. Holst (Danish, 1848-1934) is a listed maritime artist. This large oil shows several masted ships and a steam ship upon white capped green waves. Holst apparently taught in Chicago, references can be found to his pedagogy in the USA in the 1870s. He was earlier a court painter to Queen Alexandra (of Denmark). Holst lived in England and died there. Size: 24" h., 37" w., framed 37" h., 51" w. Condition: craquellure; inpainting in the waves directly below the steamship; frame has some wear; frame as is; MUST BE SHIPPED BY A 3RD PARTY DUE TO ITS SIZE AND WEIGHT. 3,000 - 5,000
2738 FEMALE OIL ON METAL. Date unknown. Oil on copper (?). Unsigned. Shows a swooning, romantic woman in a landscape setting. Size: 21" h., 17" w., framed 25" h., 20 1/2" w. Condition: the paint film is worn substantially and with craquellure. 250 - 350
2785 COWHERD AT SUNSET. 19th c. Oil on canvas. Unsigned. Shows a man leading cows down a path among houses, while the sun sets. Size: 28" h., 21" w., framed 34" h., 27" w. Condition: relined. 400 - 500
2786 V. SKRADOL DAISIES IN PITCHER. 20th c. Oil on canvas. Signed in Russian. Size: 19 1/2" h., 13" w., framed 22" h., 15 1/2" w. Condition: some craquellure, damage (near puncture) in the center in the pitcher; frame is new. 150 - 250
2788 ATTR. SIMON DE VLIEGER SEASCAPE. Perhaps 17th c. or perhaps 18th c. Unsigned. Oil on wooden panel. Comes from the Butler family, Youngstown, Ohio (of the Butler Institute of American Art). Originally belonged to Joseph G. Butler (1860-1927). An old nameplate reads Simon de Vlieger (Dutch, 1601-1653); independant examinations indicate that it may be the work of a later deVlieger follower. DeVlieger was known for seascapes characterized by sky and sea effects-- this painting has that and also shows a man in a small masted boat upon rough waves. Pencil inscription on the verso reads "Collection of F.N. Smith, Esq, Wingfield Park, Derbyshire." Size: 10 1/16" h., 11 5/8" w., framed 18" h., 19" w. Condition: numerous small losses in the paint film, which correspond to the direction of the wood grain, have been inpainted light blue; long scratch through the varnish; the frame has damage (pieces do exist to glue back on) but the frame, though old, does not appear to be original to the painting [gold leaf residue from a previous frame's rabbet is visible on the lower edge of the painting. 8,000 - 10,000
2859 MOUNTAIN AND FOREST LANDSCAPE. 20th c. Oil on canvas. Signed V. Larsen (?) lower left. This is a precisely rendered alpine scene that shows mountains gilded with sunlight and many fir trees. Typical of mid century academic German landscapes. Size: 24" h., 36" w., framed 30" h., 42" w. Condition: the canvas is bowed unevenly from something leaning against it; must be tightened and restretched; otherwise no defects. 600 - 1,000
2903 HUNGARIAN VILLAGE SCENE. 20th c. Oil on canvas. Signed "Janos." The remainder of the name is illegible. Shows a haycart pulled by a horse approaching a village. Copious notes pertaining to the painting appear on the verso, written by one of its owners. Size: 16" h., 19 1/4" w., unframed. Condition: craquellure and scuffs, loose on its stretchers. 175 - 225

3224 G.S. NEWTON GIRL ON A PONY. Early 19th c. Oil on wood panel. Signed lower right and in paint on the back of the panel. English in style and execution, this shows a girl in feathered hat atop a Shetland pony. Size: 9 1/4" h., 6 3/4" w., framed 14" h., 12" w. Condition: scratches through the paint and ground at the pony's head; a little inpainting on the girl's chest. 3,500 - 4,000
3225 M. ROSSETTI ITALIAN GYPSY. 19th c? Oil on canvas. Signed in sgrafitto, lower right. This woman is shown in peasant costume with her arms akimbo. Newly framed with a new title/name plate. Size: 24" h., 15 1/2" w., framed 29" h., 21" w. Condition: small lacuna lower left edge (1/8"); a little loose on its stretchers, otherwise it is in good condition. 550 - 700
3226 ELEVENTH STATION OF THE CROSS. 19th c. Oil on canvas set in a Gothic revival frame with sprocket spires, elongated quatrefoils, and the painted words "Jesus Nailed to the Cross." A tag on the back reads "Importers of All Kinds of Church Ornaments, P. Ceppi & Sons, Picture Frames & Statuary Manufacturers, Altars and Stations of the Cross a Specialty, 8 & 9 Wellington Quay." The frame is likely English while the painting is perhaps Italian in origin. Size: (complete) 35" h., 16" w. Condition: minor all-over craquellure to the painting. 1,100 - 1,500
3303 GARDNER RECKARD STRAWBERRIES. Dated 1881. Oil on lightweight canvas adhered to wood. Signed and dated lower left. Reckard (Amer., 1858-1908) is listed landscapist, fruit and flower painter. Size: 9" h., 11 3/4" w., framed 16" h., 20" w. Condition: craquellure, several divots in the surface; blacklight reveals extensive inpainting in the background around the leaf and among some strawberries. 1,000 - 1,500

3306 C.S. WILTSCHEK PORTRAIT. Early 20th c. Oil on canvas. Signed. This shows a woman, identified by the consignor as Mrs. Charles Kaye, who owned Arcadia Mansion in Deal, New Jersey, in elegant 1920s costume posing with two German shepherd dogs. Wiltschek also painted portraits of the Duke family, of Duke University fame. Size: 40" h., 32" w., framed 44" h., 36" w. Condition: some craquellure; frame as is. 2,000 - 3,000
3309 STILL LIFE WITH PORTRAIT. Date undetermined, no older than later 19th c. Oil on paper (?), mounted to board. Unsigned. Shows a Enlightenment era male portrait with sheet music and an explorer's map of the Gulf of Mexico. Size: 31 1/2" h., 24" w., framed 36" h., 30" w. Condition: numerous holes at the edges indicate where it was once nailed to a backing material; some buckling; frame as is. 700 - 1,200

3504 KERRY HALLAM RAVELLO. 1994. Color serigraph. Signed in pencil. No. 187/200. The British artist Kerry Hallam shows a sun drenched Mediterranean coastal town in bright colors and strokes which are reminiscent of Leroy Neiman. Comes with an attached Certificate of Tirage. Printed at Maxwell-Nova Fine Arts, New Rochelle, NY; Published by Chalk and Vermillion Fine Arts, Greenwich, CT. Purchased at Martin Lawrence Gallery. Size: 27" h., 35 1/2" w., framed 44" h., 52" w. 3514 ITALIAN HILLTOWN PAINTING BY L. SOZZENTO. 20th c. Oil on wood. Signed lower left and on the verso. Shows a view of Alburni (as indicated on the verso). Size: 5 1/4" h., 7" w., framed 12 3/4" h., 14" w. Condition: there is some silver paint on the edges of the image where it contacts the frame rabbett; otherwise no defects; frame as is. 70 - 100
