Adhered to a piece of cardboard that has an unsubstantiated inscription on its verso: "15th Century oil, bought in Venice 1930." The style and execution do not appear to be of that vintage, but it is an aged painting. Size: 9 7/8" h., 8 1/4" w., framed 14" h., 12" w. Condition: fragmentary in nature; much paint loss. |

A. PROSDOCIMI ST. GIOVANNI. Late 19th c/early 20th c. Watercolor on paper. Signed lower left. Alberto Prosdocimi (Italian, 1852-1925) is a well listed artist who produced many fine, atmospheric renderings of Venice. Prosdocimi studied at the Academy in Venice, became famous for his exquisitely rendered watercolor scenes and for painting Italian King Victor Emmanuel's portrait, the Queen Mother, and for copying Hans Memling's work. This scene shows washerwomen beside a lake and a house. The title, if it applies, is written in pencil on the verso. Size: 17" h., 11" w., framed 20" h., 14" w. Condition: no defects; frame as is. |
