| 1708 | 19TH C MUNICH MAGI WINDOW Late 19th Century. c.1880-1910. Munich style stained glass figural window representing Three Magi, Caspar, Melchior and Balthasar presenting gifts. Traditional stained glass compositin of stacking figures within tall arched format typifies Munich style developed in the 19th c. of looking at 15th and 16th c. examples for inspiration. Form and detail are painted or stained onto a glass panel, lead outlines play a lesser role in defining the form. Architectural detail of column, corinthian capital and arched top are created by this painted and fired technique. Facial details and fabric details are also refined in this fashion. This window was once part of a larger scene. Missing right hand panel would contain the fiugres of the Holy Family in the stable and be edged on the right with matching architectural detail. No makers mark visible. Size: glass: 72"H, 31"W. Frame: 77"H, 35 1/2"W. Condition: window is in a wooden framework with four reinforcing cross bars for support.
