ANCIENT CORINTHIAN BLACK FIGURE AMPHHORISKOS. 6th century B.C. Bulbous vessel with a slender cylindrical neck and small loop handles to each side. Decorated around the bottle with two black Sirens with crimson added on the wings and tails, each flanking a central male figure (Odysseus?) with a crimson skirt. The field with interspersed black flowers. Wave motif on neck, and other central male figure (Odysseus?) with a crimson skirt. The field with interspersed black flowers. Wave motif on neck, and other decorations atop the main body. (Note: small chip to rim, some wear to paint, else good.) 8" h., 5 1/2" dia. Purchased by Dame Carpender in Palermo in 1969.
