Marco Ricci was a well known Italian Baroque etcher and painter of landscapes and landscape with figure works, as well as veduti of ruins. This print shows cows watering among people doing the wash in the river, and traveling over the countryside. The Latin inscription reads "Ill mo atque Ecmo D.D. Gerardo Sagredo D. Marci Procuratori Viro omnium bonarum artium Fautori et Mecenati prestan. In Obsequij argumentum Carolus Orsolini DDD." Size: approx. 13" h., 18" w., framed 19" h., 23" w. Hobbs (Amer., 1892-1967) is a listed printmaker and this is a very finely pulled impression of this plaster and timber jail entrance. Size: to platemark 9 7/8" h., 6 1/4" w., framed 17 3/4" h., 13 1/4" w. Condition: no defects. 200 - 400
2043 FREEDOM BOX ENGRAVINGS. 18th c. Six separate engravings on laid paper. Designed by William Charron and J. Bacon, engraved by J. Collyer. These illustrations are for the various sides of a commemorative box given by the City of London to Admiral Augustus Keppel. Also included are the title page "Description of the Freedom Box" and a "Succinct Account of His Public Services." Keppel was known for unsuccesfully engaging the French fleet at Brest, during the American Revolution. For this Keppel was court martialed in 1778 (later exonerated) and this suite of prints dates to 1779, and so this (the box) may perhaps be seen as a small compensation for his troubles. Size each: to platemark 8" x 5", paper size 13 3/8" x 10 1/8" Condition: wear and darkening to all edges of all pages; the Succinct History has a 2 3/4" cut in the border. 300 - 375

Jean LeBlond (French, 1635-1709) is a known printmaker/ publisher and the style is similar to other examples of his work. It is not known or verified if it is by Jean Le Blond.
